Reception children are Top of the Class!

Latest figures show Reception children at Iver Village Infant School are scoring top of the table in checks to see what they have learnt over the school year and whether they are ready for Year 1.

The ‘Good Level of Development’ assessment measures whether children have reached the expected level in five key categories: Communication and Language; Personal, Social, and Emotional  Development; Physical Development; Literacy and Maths.

Figures for this year’s assessment have been finalised and show that an outstanding 89% of Iver’s reception children have achieved a Good Level of Development (GLD). This is significantly higher than the average last year for the whole country (68.3%) and Buckinghamshire (71.4%).

Based on last year’s figures it also puts Iver Village Infant School in the top 2% to 3% of primary schools nationwide.

This year’s figures also found that 90% of children supported with the pupil premium achieved a Good Level of Development, meaning that there was no gap in attainment between those children and all children across the school. This is an amazing achievement by those children, particularly when compared against national figures which show a 20% gap.

“The GLD check is important because it looks at whether a child is ready for the next year of school so we are over the moon with the achievements of our incredible children. They have achieved some of the best results in the country and we could not be prouder of them.

“This would not have been possible without the support of our wonderful families and our hard working staff so it is an achievement for our whole school community and I want to say a massive thanks to you all.

“With scores like this our children have the foundations they need to go on and succeed in the future. It’s fantastic news.”

It is not the first time the Early Years Provision at Iver Village Infant School has stood out. Earlier this year, visitors from Kingston University were so impressed with what they saw from the teachers and all the staff in Reception that they asked Miss Sibley and Mrs Wright to give a lecture to their trainee teachers about what we do to make our school so special.
