Enrichment
Beyond the Classroom: Enrichment & Personal Development
At our school, we believe that education should be an adventure that extends far beyond the pages of a textbook. While core subjects like Literacy and Maths are the building blocks of learning, enrichment and personal development are the sparks that bring those subjects to life.
We are committed to nurturing the "whole child," ensuring that every pupil discovers their unique talents, builds resilience, and develops a deep understanding of the world around them.
Day-to-Day Enrichment
Enrichment isn't just an "extra" at our school; it is woven into our curriculum. We provide a breadth of experiences that allow children to discover new passions:
-
Immersive Learning: We launch new topics with "hook lessons" designed to ignite curiosity—whether that’s discovering a rainforest that "grew" overnight in the hall or giving a very patient dog a full groom and blow-dry!
-
Active Exploration: From "muddy puddle" outdoor sessions and musical exploration to competitive sports and creative arts.
-
Educational Visits: We take learning on the road with trips to the beach, local environmental centres, and the zoo.
-
Specialist Music: We offer pupils the chance to channel their inner rockstar through iRock, our external expert music program.
Enrichment Days & Themes
Throughout the year, we dedicate time to deep-diving into global themes. Events like Diversity Day, World Book Day, Gypsy, Roma and Traveller Heritage Day, and Science & Sustainability Week provide our children with the essential knowledge to understand and respect the wider world.
Charity & Global Citizenship
We take pride in looking "at home and away." By sponsoring eight children in Africa through Action Aid, our pupils develop empathy and a global perspective. Each class writes to their sponsored peers, learning about lives different from their own.
-
Fundraising Fun: We raise funds through community favorites like ice lolly sales, Valentine’s breakfasts, and the "Spot the Teacher as a Baby" competition.
-
Local Support: We support MacMillan Cancer, Comic Relief, and the local Hive by donating good quality clothes and toys. Our annual Harvest Festival at the village church allows us to give back to those less fortunate in our own community.
Community Links
We are a school at the heart of its village. We maintain strong ties with our local church and the fire service, and we are proud participants in the annual Christmas Tree Festival and the Festival of Lights.
Community Expertise: We love to utilise the diversity within our own community. We invite parents and local residents to share their cultures, careers, and skills with the children.
Clubs & Extra-Curricular
To support busy families and budding hobbyists, and further extend or enrichment programme, we offer a diverse range of clubs every day after school and during lunchtimes. These include:
-
Sports & Fitness
-
Art & Construction
-
Film & Science
-
Wraparound Care
Pupil Voice: Leading the Way
We believe our children are the most important voices in the school. Through our Pupil Voice Groups, children take an active role in leadership, attending meetings and implementing real change—such as improving our library or introducing "soft ends" to lunchtimes.
Our Pupil Leaders include:
-
School Council & Attendance Ambassadors
-
Eco-Warriors & Librarians
-
Sports Leaders & Kindness Buddies
By empowering our pupils to lead, we ensure they leave us as confident, compassionate, and responsible citizens.
Why is it so Important for Infants?
The early years are a critical window for development. Here is why we prioritise enrichment:
-
Building Confidence: Trying something new—whether it’s performing in a play or mastering a new skill in PE—helps children build self-esteem and a "can-do" attitude.
-
Developing Social Skills: Enrichment activities often involve teamwork and communication, teaching children how to share, lead, and support their peers.
-
Sparking Curiosity: By exposing children to a wide variety of experiences, we encourage them to ask questions, think critically, and develop a lifelong love for learning.
-
Well-being and Joy: Primary school should be a place of wonder. Enrichment provides the moments of joy and excitement that make school a place where children truly want to be.
"Our goal is to ensure that every child leaves us not only with the skills they need for the future but with a heart full of memories and a mind full of possibilities."
Through our diverse enrichment program, we aim to give every child the chance to shine, grow, belong and thrive in their own unique way.
