How we Assess Progress and Attainment
Tracking Your Child’s Success
At IVIA, we are committed to ensuring every child reaches their full potential through a proactive approach to progress tracking and assessment. We believe that understanding exactly where a child is in their learning journey is the key to unlocking high academic outcomes.
To achieve this, our staff use daily formative assessments—small, informal checks during lessons—to adapt their teaching in the moment. In addition to this daily support, we conduct formal Phonics assessments every two weeks, ensuring that early reading skills are solid and progressing at pace. If children access Accelerated Reader books, they are assessed at the end of each book with a more formal assessment each term. For other subjects, we assess at the end of each unit or half-term to celebrate what the children have mastered and identify any areas for further growth. By assessing in such a timely manner, we ensure that no child is held back and that any misconceptions are addressed immediately. This "assessment for learning" approach means your child is always building on a firm foundation, feeling confident and supported every single day.
Following feedback to parents, we now offer half-termly written reports as well as offering parent/carer meetings termly with class teachers and the SENDCO. Parents/carers are also free to make an appointment to discuss any elements of their children's education with the teacher, inclusion team or Principal.
If you want to know more about how we assess children's progress, please speak to your child's teacher or Mrs Wright.
